We do not sell your personal data. We do not share it for marketing. We use it only to create the memorial you have asked us to build.

What data we collect

Information you give us directly:

  • Your name and email address when you contact us or create an account
  • The story you submit about a person you wish to memorialise
  • Photographs and other media you upload
  • Family names, dates, places and relationships contained within your story
  • Payment information — processed securely by Stripe; we never see or store your card details

Information collected automatically:

  • IP address, browser type and device information
  • Pages visited and time spent on the site
  • Cookie data — see our Cookie Policy for full details

How we use your data

We use your data to:

  • Create and display the memorial you have requested
  • Process payment for Hearth and Dúchas tier subscriptions via Stripe
  • Send you confirmation emails and important service updates
  • Improve Bríogh using anonymised, aggregated analytics
  • Comply with our legal obligations

We use Fisceal AI — powered by Anthropic’s Claude API — to extract structured information from your submitted story. Your story text is sent to Anthropic’s API for this purpose. Anthropic does not use your data to train their AI models. Anthropic’s privacy policy is available at anthropic.com/privacy.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell your personal data
  • We do not share your data with third parties for marketing
  • We do not use your stories or family data for any purpose other than creating your memorial and generating your family tree
  • We do not make automated decisions that significantly affect you

Who we share your data with

We share data only with the following service providers, strictly for the purpose of delivering the service:

Memorial content and deceased persons

Bríogh memorials concern people who have passed away. Under UK GDPR, information about deceased persons is not personal data. However, we treat all memorial content with respect and discretion.

Where a memorial contains information about living family members — for example, names of surviving children — that information is treated as personal data and protected accordingly.

 

How long we keep your data

  • Memorial content is retained for as long as your subscription is active
  • Free Ember tier memorials are retained unless you request deletion
  • Account data is retained for as long as your account is active
  • Payment records are retained for seven years as required by UK law
  • You may request deletion of your data at any time — see Your Rights below

Your rights

Under UK GDPR and EU GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data (right to be forgotten)
  • Restrict or object to processing
  • Receive your data in a portable format

Security

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data. Payment data is handled entirely by Stripe and never passes through our servers. Memorial content is stored on secured servers. No method of internet transmission is 100% secure, but we take all reasonable precautions.

International transfers

Your data may be processed outside the EEA — specifically by Anthropic (USA) and Stripe (USA). We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for these transfers in accordance with UK GDPR requirements.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted here with a revised “Last updated” date. Continued use of the service constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
